The Bali Bombing
[On 12 October 2002, two bombs went off in a nightclub on the Indonesian island of Bali, killing many 'Westerners' and native Balinese, including a large number of Australians. This was immediately labelled a 'terrorist attack' and is being used to encourage Aussies to join Bush's 'War on Terror', about which we are still lukewarm.]
Population not rock-solid behind your war? Propagandistic horror stories of children thrown overboard and white girls systematically raped not enough? Get the waverers on board really quickly. Plant a bomb — not in the Homeland, but close by. If a few are injured, so much the better — that’s ‘collateral damage’. Then, cautiously, claim to find a link with ‘terrorist organizations’ and the man with whom you wish to go to war.
As everyone has said, it IS a heinous and despicable act and deserves universal condemnation, but I would look closer to home for the source of the blast — our own home-grown ‘terrorist organization’, ASIS [Australian Secret Intelligence Service - our CIA]. Shock, Horror, Loony Conspiracy Theory — surely the children of Gallipoli wouldn’t do that, would they? Well, MOST of us wouldn’t … but, as I was once told many years ago, 'sometimes some people have to get their hands dirty to do these things, which are necessary to protect the freedoms you enjoy, young feller-me-lad'.
